Our client in Brighton, Colorado was done fighting with their fiberglass pool. They had taken to investigating and repair cracks in the pool with their scuba gear. Aurora, Colorado Fiberglass Shell Pool Removal

Fiberglass Shell Pool Removal

After recently purchasing and moving in, our client in Aurora, Colorado contacted us about removing the failing pool that dominated her backyard.

This fiberglass shell pool had seen better days.  With the freeze/thaw that winters in Colorado bring us and the close proximity of a mature pine tree and its roots, the pool had lifted and shifted.  The previous owners had addressed the issue with Great Stuff foam.

The back yard was a very tight area to work in.  That’s where our specialty with working with compact excavators really comes into play.

After removing the fiberglass shell entirely and disposing of it offsite, we broke up the surrounding concrete patio that covered the rest of the back yard.

We brought in clean compactable fill material and brought the back yard to grade.  Our client opted to have us stop at this point.  She wanted to get a feel for the backyard and determine what she wanted to do next.  Lawn, extend the patio, planting beds?  With the pool removed, her backyard looked as though it had doubled in size.

Lakewood, Colorado Fiberglass Pool Removal

Here is another fiberglass pool we removed, this time in Lakewood, CO.  The homeowners had a large backyard, however it was dominated by the pool, concrete deck and some aging shrubs.  They were not interested in using the pool – they were looking for more usable space.

Mack Land, LLC

As we typically do, we accessed the backyard through the side yard.  For this project, we did need to take a few sections of the neighbor’s fence down for access.  But this worked out well for the neighbor.  While onsite, we removed a raised planter he wanted gone, removed a lean-to shed the previous owner had constructed that was of no use to the new owner ans removed a small stone pond.

Mack Land, LLC

We removed the fiberglass pool entirely and greatly reduced the size of the concrete deck.  We also removed some of the overgrown shrubs to further open up the space.  After filling and compacting the pool, we brought the area to rough grade.  The homeowners wanted to take over from there.

Denver, CO Fiberglass Pool Removal

Most of our pool removal requests come in from private homeowners.  Yet sometimes we work directly with other contractors.  With this project, we were contacted by Phase One Landscapes.  Their client was looking to do a complete makeover of their back yard.  This included removing the in-ground pool and pool deck that currently dominated the space.  That’s where MackLand, LLC came in.

The pool at this property was a fiberglass shell surrounded by a concrete pool deck and patio.   As with many Denver locations, the access and room to maneuver around the site was tight.  Here our use of smaller compact equipment allowed us to get the job done without impacting the surrounding features.  As with all our pool removal projects, we disconnected the pool equipment and capped the utilities properly.  Once we drained the pool, we removed the fiberglass shell and disposed it offsite.  Then we broke up and removed the entire concrete pool deck and patio.

The new backyard plan included installing a new recycled brick paver patio over the pool area.  This can be tricky, however, there are ways to backfill appropriately so it can be done.  For this project, we backfilled with structural fill and compacted it in layers using a Sheep Foot Vibratory Compactor.  With this process, we were able to firmly compact the base material, preparing it properly for the recycled brick paver installation to be completed by Phase One Landscapes.

The backyard makeover went smoothly and everyone involved is happy with the outcome.

Making use of our many years of experience as landscape architects many options were discussed.

This would include a hot tub, fire pit as well as lots of level open green space for yard games. The client decided to handle these finishing touches themselves.
